Giorgos Mazonakis

Giorgos Mazonakis (Greek: Γιώργος Μαζωνάκης) was a Greek singer known for his work in modern folk-pop and pop, born on 4 March 1972 and passing on 9 September 2026. He grew up in Nikaia, a neighborhood in Piraeus, where he was surrounded by the laiko music of Stratos Dionysiou, Yiannis Parios, Marinella, and Haris Alexiou. By age 15, he already knew he wanted to pursue singing. His first nightclub performance came in Patras during the summer of 1992, which led to his discovery by PolyGram Greece executives. With his distinctive temperament, original vocal style, and fresh artistic vision, Mazonakis reshaped the Greek nightlife scene through a string of successful appearances at Athens' most prominent venues. He also performed extensively abroad, including across Greece, Cyprus, Germany, Australia, and American cities such as New York City, New Jersey, Atlantic City, and Chicago. His hit "Mou Leipeis" (I Miss You) achieved major success in Italy after being featured in a car commercial. In 2002, he contributed two Stamatis Kraounakis songs to the soundtrack of Nikos Panagiotopoulos's film *Varethika Na Skotono tous Agapitikous Sou*. He collaborated with Greek fashion label Deux Hommes at MadWalk by Vodafone, and Turkey's highest-circulation newspaper, Hurriyet, selected Votanikos nightclub and Mazonakis to represent Athens nightlife. After finishing his Votanikos shows in March 2011, he traveled to Turkey to work with a Turkish songwriter, building on partnerships with major Turkish composers featured on his album *Ta Isia Anapoda*.
