Sakharov, an electronics engineer, is consumed by despair over the grim fate he believes awaits everyone on the Ark. In a drastic move, he overrides the fail-safe systems to trigger the Ark's self-destruct. However, this action sets off the fail-safe alarms, catching the attention of Devon, Rachel, and Garth. Sakharov plans to escape with his daughter Valarie, who opposes his scheme, using a rocket meant to launch the Ark's historical logs into space for other life forms. When the rocket fails to launch, he teams up with Devon and Garth to rewire the fail-safe and prevent disaster. They face the daunting task of miniaturizing themselves to navigate the micro circuits in a desperate race against time to save the Ark from destruction.
