Kate and Michael entered the MasterChef kitchen for the final showdown, eager to learn the rules of the finale. The competition would consist of three scored rounds, with each finalist vying for a total of 100 points. The first round featured a 45-minute Mystery Box Challenge, where they had to create dishes from ingredients in each box. Michael opted for a steak and oyster pie, while Kate prepared pan-fried Balmain bugs accompanied by crab and rémoulade salad. Although Michael sped through his tasks, Kate faced delays with her crabmeat, cutting into her time. The judges rewarded Michael with an 8 and a 9, while Kate received a 7 and an 8, giving Michael an early lead.
