Nick passes the case file concerning Taliek to James, who presents it to Judge Rebecca Damsen in a custody hearing. Together, James and Nick assist a young father striving to regain custody of his son, but the father's temper threatens to jeopardize his chances. Meanwhile, at Fallin & Fallin, Nick believes bringing a criminal defense attorney onto the team is essential, as he feels Burton should focus more on the firm than on Shannon. Nick grows concerned about James's emotional involvement with Taliek Allen, especially since James suspects Taliek may have killed his nephew, Levi. Additionally, Lulu contemplates leaving LSP for a position in California, which worries Nick, as he fears losing her affection.
