The newly framed and sheathed spaces of the house allow for an exciting preview of the kitchen and media room. The front facade is now free of two centuries' worth of paint, primed for a fresh coat. Architect Rick Bechtel and window expert Mike Roach review the specifications for the new wooden windows, which will feature double-hung designs with insulating glazing and six-over-six muntins. They agree that the historic sash in the front section should be restored and weatherstripped instead of replaced. In the workshop, we observe the installation of breathable building wrap and a new skylight. A roll-forming machine produces metal panels for the new standing-seam roof, and we also see the engineered wood trim being used—it's stable, warp-free, consistent, and more affordable than clear pine.
