This Old House kicks off a new season by aiding the Sharma family in transforming their 1940s residence along Boston's iconic Charles River. Architect Chris Chu plans an exterior facelift to boost the home's curb appeal. Inside, renovations will include a spacious new kitchen, modernized bathrooms, and numerous windows to maximize the breathtaking views. General contractor Tom Silva conducts a structural assessment, raising concerns about a 2010 EPA regulation regarding lead paint. Plumbing and heating specialist Richard Trethewey uncovers asbestos in typical basement locations, and with the assistance of asbestos inspector Glenn Potter, additional hidden spots are revealed, including ceilings and walls.
