The episode began with last year's champion, Nick Lazzarini, showcasing a solo performance. Following that, Cat welcomed the judges for this episode: Nigel Lithgoe, Mary Murphy, and Dan Karaty. She revealed a new twist for the competition: instead of drawing partners each week, contestants would be randomly paired and remain together until one is eliminated. This week’s couples included Benji and Donyelle, Ivan and Allison, Jason and Aleksandra, Jamyz and Jessica, Stanislav and Erin, Dmitry and Joy, Ryan and Heidi, Ben and Ashlee, Travis and Martha, and Musa and Natalie. Voting was then opened to the audience.
