S09E09 A Friendship Is Tested
Jamie is thrilled when four of her closest friends arrive in New Orleans for a visit. While Melissa and David attempt to clarify racial terminology for Julie, she becomes emotional, expressing to Melissa her feelings of being shortchanged due to her sheltered background. On a boating excursion with Julie, Jamie, and her friends, Melissa is taken aback when the tour guide uses a racially insensitive term to refer to a bird. This sparks a heated debate between Julie and Melissa about ignorance towards minorities. Later, Melissa shares with Jamie how the incident affected her and why she felt he didn’t grasp her feelings of hurt.
