Walnut Grove has been drenched in relentless rain for two months, leaving farmers like Charles anxious about their families' survival. After reading an article, he and his fellow farmers embark on a 400-mile trek with their families to seek a fresh start in Gold Country. Initially, things look promising as Charles and Isaiah strike gold, but Laura and Carl gain an entirely different viewpoint from a new friend they encounter near their campsite. Meanwhile, Caroline sets up a school in a tent in town, but the makeshift setting turns out to be challenging for both her and the students.
