The tragic Cavalese cable car disaster took place on February 3, 1998, near the Italian ski resort town of Cavalese, situated in the Dolomites, approximately 40 km northeast of Trento. This catastrophic event, distinct from a previous cable car incident in 1976, resulted in the loss of 20 lives.
