Recently freed after spending nine years in prison for multiple sexual assaults, Peter Manuel is hell-bent on revenge against Detective William Muncie, the officer who put him away. Following another attack on a young woman named Mary McLauchlan, Manuel chooses to represent himself in court and ultimately achieves a not-proven verdict. Meanwhile, a heartbroken Mary receives a vow from Muncie that he will tirelessly pursue justice and ensure Manuel is returned to prison.
