Whitley takes charge of a campus fundraising event, aiming to gather contributions from influential business figures. She connects with Byron Douglas III, a successful alumnus and restaurant chain owner, who is captivated by her charm. Impressed, he invites her to help with his state senate campaign. Tensions arise between Whitley and Dwayne when she insults him in front of Byron. Meanwhile, Mr. Gaines faces losing the Pit due to a corporate bid. In a show of support, Byron rallies for Mr. Gaines during his campaign, prompting the corporation to sponsor the lease, allowing him to continue operating. Whitley and Byron share a romantic moment with a kiss.
