As the Enterprise crew investigates a downed ship on a barren planet, they are confronted by eerie apparitions and come across an alien species that has managed to endure against all odds. Trip steps in to fix their damaged craft and forms a bond with Liana, a striking humanoid alien who begins to develop romantic feelings for him.
