The Arderns navigate life in the 1970s, an era when supermarkets emerged as the preferred shopping hub in Britain, leaving corner shops struggling to survive. Their journey kicks off with a grand launch aimed at countering the rising dominance of supermarkets. Sam puts on a chicken costume to attract customers with enticing 'cheap cheap' deals, while the Lord Mayor of Sheffield ceremoniously cuts the ribbon to inaugurate the shop. With the shift to a self-service model, Dave realizes he needs to completely revamp his strategy to ensure the cash registers keep ringing.
