As the staff gears up for Kelly Howland and Brad Dodge's engagement party, tensions rise. Kelly’s father, Ned, is pushing for the marriage due to financial pressures; his company desperately requires a merger with Victor Dodge’s firm. Margot, Kelly's mother, reassures her that love can develop over time. However, Kelly is secretly in love with David Newman, a young math teacher, and is pregnant with his child. Complicating matters, Jonathan Talbot, claiming to be Kelly's long-lost uncle, is actually her biological father and Margot's past lover, whose life unraveled due to Ned's decisions. Meanwhile, Christine faces a health scare with a potentially malignant lump, reminiscent of her mother's fate, and seeks comfort from Peter. The two end up drinking too much wine, leading to a night of sleep rather than meaningful connection.
