On October 31, 1996, TAM Transportes Aéreos Regionais Flight 402 tragically plummets just moments after departing from São Paulo–Congonhas Airport, crashing into a crowded neighborhood. The disaster claims the lives of all 96 passengers and crew members aboard, along with 3 individuals on the ground. Investigators later determined that the accident was caused by an unexpected activation of a malfunctioning thrust reverser on the right engine, leading to this catastrophic event.
