In January 1976, 10-year-old Vernie Mitchell heads to a store in Trenton, NJ, but instead of a simple errand, he encounters a horrific fate. He is discovered dead, having suffered 47 stab wounds and serious head injuries. A variety of suspects emerge, but the investigation soon stalls. It takes 18 years for law enforcement to identify the perpetrator, revealing a motive that is far more surprising than anyone could have anticipated.
