Carl Kolchak starts his new role as a crime journalist at the L.A. Beacon and quickly becomes engrossed in the puzzling disappearance of a pregnant woman. When her remains are discovered, suspicion falls on her husband; however, Kolchak is convinced of the man's innocence and suspects a supernatural element at play. His efforts to uncover the truth are complicated when Perri Reed, the senior crime reporter at the paper, begins to probe into Kolchak's enigmatic history.
