The Shady Rest is struggling financially, and Kate faces a looming $200 bank loan payment. Uncle Joe encounters lost guests Henrietta Boswell and Gertrude Hawley, who are searching for Madame Bovary's Hideaway Reducing Farm. He misleads them into believing that the Shady Rest is an upscale weight loss retreat, charging them $200 for a week. To keep the truth hidden from Kate, he offers a money-back guarantee while using a rigged scale to promote a bizarre diet of eating anything paired with turnip greens. Meanwhile, the women unwittingly take on Joe's chores, desperately seeking Kate's supposed secret to weight loss and rejuvenation.
