Gortimer’s dad pays a fleeting visit, and the boy pulls out all the stops to keep his smile from slipping, even conjuring a rainbow that arches over Normal Street. The shimmering spectacle, however, works a little too well—soon every neighbor is walking around with an unnaturally sunny disposition. Mel and Ranger start to suspect their friend’s heartfelt gesture has twisted into something far more unsettling, and they wonder if Gortimer’s magical display has crossed a line that shouldn't be crossed.
