Knuckles hesitantly strikes a bargain with Robotnik, agreeing to hand over Sonic and his family in return for the Chaos Emerald that could rescue Mobius. However, he quickly realizes his mistake in trusting the sinister dictator when Robotnik starts to execute his scheme to roboticize the Hedgehogs.
