Earth is enveloped by a delicate layer known as the atmosphere, which is remarkably thin in relation to the planet's size. Composed primarily of nitrogen and oxygen, along with traces of water vapor, argon, carbon dioxide, xenon, neon, helium, and sulfur, this gaseous blanket serves multiple vital functions. It shields the planet from harmful ultraviolet rays and incinerates many meteors before they reach the surface. Additionally, the atmosphere retains heat, ensuring a comfortable climate, while clouds form within it, providing essential rainfall that sustains life on Earth.
