Once a thriving capital of a now-vanished kingdom, Halebidu’s name translates to "ruined city" in contemporary times. During the peak of Hoysala dominance in the 12th century, it was known as ‘Dwarsamudra’ and held significant importance. Today, Halebidu boasts some of the most remarkable examples of Hoysala architecture, yet it remains largely overlooked in modern India. Like the neighboring city of Mysore and its rock-cut temples, Halebidu now stands in quiet solitude, a testament to the forgotten legacy of the Hoysala empire.
