As the festive season draws near, Ally is filled with joy, but Larry feels the weight of sadness. He reveals to her that he has a seven-year-old son living in Detroit with his ex, and since their breakup, Christmas has lost its cheer for him. Meanwhile, Kimmie pressures John to sing at the bar after he boasts about his college band, and to everyone's surprise, he doesn't perform as poorly as expected. Elaine, feeling isolated, takes the stage to boost her confidence, catching the attention of Mark, who asks her out. Meanwhile, John and Ling tackle a case involving a news anchor dismissed for claiming on air that Santa isn't real.
