One evening, Max returns home to find 99 in bed with a black eye. When he questions her about it, she dismisses it as nothing significant. Curious about her earlier visit to her mother, he learns that 99 didn’t feel up to it, raising Max's suspicions. Just then, the phone rings; it’s the Chief, revealing that the woman in his apartment is not the real 99. The Chief reassures Max by allowing the genuine 99 to speak with him, confirming her identity. She recounts how an imposter attacked her while movers, who are actually KAOS agents, were delivering furniture. In self-defense, 99 punched the imposter, resulting in the black eye.
