Time Team
S11E04 Saxon Burials on the Ridge - South Carlton, Lincolnshire
The team explores a potential fifth-century burial site in a cultivated field, uncovering a metal shield boss. One of the male skeletons is gripping a drinking vessel, and there are signs of even older activity, including a Bronze Age barrow. They create a Saxon shield using traditional tools. Conservator Dana Goodburn-Brown analyzes the x-ray images of the shield boss, while Phil and members of Regia Anglorum showcase the shields' combat techniques. They are later joined by bone experts Alice Roberts and Margaret Cox, who discover colorful beads within the skeletal remains.
