S26E10 Shaping the Spaces - The Carlisle House

2004-12-11

Roger demonstrates to Kevin his decision to forgo old granite capstones as steps to link the two driveways. Mason Mike Lapitsky shares his process of choosing, chiseling, and dry fitting New England fieldstone to construct the farmer's walls. Inside the barn, Norm updates Kevin on the progress of the “living hall,” highlighting that all windows and floor decks are installed, and rough plumbing is finished. Entomologist Ron Schwalb applies a borate solution to treat insects and mold. Seeking inspiration, architect Jeremiah Eck takes Kevin to view a stunning great room with a Rumford fireplace in a recently designed Lincoln, Massachusetts home. Kevin assists Norm and Tom in raising the ceilings of the future kids' room by three inches for better headroom. Meanwhile, Richard enlists well contractor Dave Hayes to assess the existing well's flow and capacity, revealing unexpected findings.
