In the first episode, Samantha returns home sporting a black eye, prompting Nell to share some self-defense techniques with her. Meanwhile, Julie and her friend delve into the topic of where babies come from, and their study session takes an unexpected turn when the chief walks in on them sharing a kiss in the kitchen. Later, Simpson shows up at the house with Katie, who was caught shoplifting but avoided arrest. Katie's rebellious behavior stems from the recent loss of her mother, Margaret, but by the end, she and the chief find a way to reconcile.
