While rummaging through Nell’s dresser, Joey accidentally discharges the chief's gun, injuring her foot. The entire family rallies around Nell, including a visiting Mama Maybell, to support her during her recovery. However, Joey becomes increasingly anxious and avoids Nell whenever they cross paths. Later, after accidentally hurting Samantha's finger with a baseball, Joey feels guilty and wants to make amends by treating her to an ice cream cone. Nell agrees to take him, but when the car sputters to life, it triggers Joey's memories of the gun incident, prompting him to finally express his regret to Nell.
