On August 10, 2010, Japan fell under the control of the Holy Empire of Britannia. Seven years later, high school student Lelouch Lamperouge becomes embroiled in a clash between anti-government rebels and the Britannian forces in the Shinjuku Ghetto. During the chaos, a mysterious girl with green hair rescues him from certain death by bestowing upon him "the power of the king," a gift that gives him the ability to command others to follow his orders.
