Following the assault on Father Barnes during Halliwell's detention, Dalgliesh summons Swayne and Lampart for interrogation. He uncovers that Lampart is involved in a romantic relationship with Lady Barbara, who confesses she is expecting a child and believes she will gain a fortune. Yet, Lady Lavinia discloses a shocking twist: Sir Paul had secretly amended his will just before his death.
