After 15 years of careful saving and preparation, ecologist Fred and communications manager Saffron Baker finally begin constructing their new family home in a village nestled in the Peak District. However, they encounter challenges as the initial phase of building turns out to be more of a civil engineering challenge than a straightforward house project. Their progress comes to a standstill when their self-build mortgage unexpectedly falls through, leaving them in a tough spot.
