S13E07 Terror in Paradise (Air Moorea Flight 1121)
On August 9, 2007, tragedy struck as Air Moorea Flight 1121 crashed shortly after departing from Moorea Airport in French Polynesia, claiming the lives of all 19 passengers and the pilot. The disaster was attributed to a severely worn and partially broken elevator control cable that ultimately failed during flight. The cable was subjected to excessive strain due to the changing forces on the elevators during flap retraction. Compounding the issue, the aircraft had been frequently shaken by jet exhaust while parked, which likely exacerbated the stress on the control cables.
