Handcrafted America
S03E06 Saddle Shoes, Fluted Ceramic Stoneware, Spanish Lanterns
Jill Wagner embarks on a journey across the nation to uncover skilled artisans who create remarkable handcrafted items. Her adventure begins in Omaha, Nebraska, where she meets Jeff Ketzler, a fourth-generation shoemaker. His family has a long-standing legacy of producing high-quality footwear, having served notable figures like Ronald Reagan and early astronauts. Next, Jill travels to Charleston, South Carolina, to visit young potter Christian Royal, who incorporates plants from his garden into his distinctive stoneware. Finally, in Santa Barbara, California, she learns from Tanya Holroyd and Dave Polarek how they meticulously recreate centuries-old Spanish-style lanterns using just photographs as references.
