Join Bill Nye as he illuminates the fascinating world of light optics! Light, a form of energy, typically travels in straight lines, but obstacles can alter its path. When light encounters an object, it can either reflect, pass through, or be absorbed, often resulting in a combination of these effects. For example, mirrors reflect light, allowing you to see your reflection, while glass can bend light, as seen in magnifying glasses or eyeglasses that enlarge images. Additionally, dark surfaces absorb more light than lighter ones, influencing color perception—black objects appear black because they absorb nearly all incoming light.
