S25E11 Creating a Safe and Beautiful Home for Elders - The Concord Cottage

2003-12-20

Kevin catches Roger examining a fresh delivery of premium bluestone from Pennsylvania and cobblestones sourced from India. Outside, Roger demonstrates the proper technique for installing a bluestone patio, using stone dust and cement over a three-foot base for effective drainage. Inside the cottage, Tom introduces Kevin to contractor Paul Landry, who is hanging a new type of wallboard that is fireproof, moisture-resistant, and inhibits mold growth, addressing a significant issue in construction. Richard showcases an air-to-air heat exchanger for fresh air circulation and a cutting-edge radiant heating system installed in the exterior walls. Kevin then joins Janet and interior designer Tricia McDonagh for a sneak peek at her design selections for the cottage. Holly takes Kevin to Acton, Massachusetts, to tour the in-law suite she designed for Sylvia Arrom's elderly parents. Meanwhile, in the kitchen, family friends gather.
