After four long years, Steven Rinella finally secures a prized, limited-entry elk tag for public land. He embarks on a solo backpacking adventure in New Mexico’s Gila National Forest. The primary hurdle he faces is the sprawling terrain filled with dense timber, making it necessary to do plenty of glassing and extensive hiking. In this rugged landscape, a single missed chance could lead to an empty freezer waiting for him back home.
