The Untouchables
S01E25 Portrait of a Thief
In 1931 Chicago, Eliot Ness and his team had successfully dismantled Al Capone's bootlegging operations by destroying his breweries and speakeasies. However, a new challenge arose as vast quantities of liquor began pouring into the city from an external source. During a meeting with D.A. Beecher Asbury, it quickly became clear where the alcohol was originating. They discovered 5-gallon cans marked with "Brawley Mills, Brawley, New York." A chemical analysis confirmed the liquor was a potent 190 proof, likely produced under a U.S. Government permit, but notably lacked any denaturant, making it safe for consumption.
